A worldwide flood? Is it possible? There are those who claim that all life on earth spontaneously came about out of nothing. A worldwide flood seems a whole lot more likely than that.

So God uses water to destroy the sin and evil that existed on Earth in Noah’s day. Noah and his family were spared. The water caused death and the water saved lives. What do we learn from this?

1) God takes sin very seriously. Genesis 6 tells us that God was ‘grieved’ and in ‘pain’ because of the wickedness on Earth.

2) God destroyed the evildoers on Earth with the waters of the Flood.

3) God still takes sin seriously, but destroyed the effects of sin by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

4) The waters of baptism now destroys the sin in our lives and saves us from eternal death. Death and life through water.

If you’re baptized then rejoice in the destruction of Satan’s power in your life. That’s what the devil is. The Bible calls him ‘the father of lies’. This lie in Genesis 3 was the first lie. God had clearly told Adam that if he ate from the fruit of that specific tree, he would die. Now the devil confronts Eve and completely contradicts what God had said. He still works that way. The devil, through various means and media, tries to convince us that what is wrong is actually right and what is bad is really good. He wants us to think that harmful things are really beneficial for us. Adam and Eve quickly discovered that the devil had lied.

God has given us His Word (The Bible) as our primary weapon against the devil’s lies. What’s it really all about? How can anyone know for sure? The fact that God gave us His Word, the Bible means that He wants us to know about Him. I’d say Christianity is about a relationship with God. A faith relationship with God through Jesus. That relationship starts and endures through contact with God’s Word. And God’s Word is useful! It trains us in righteousness so that we can live in response to what God has done for us.

Jesus came, lived, and died to pay the price for our sins. Now it’s our privilege to live for Him. Again, it doesn’t have to be complicated. God directs us to worship, pray, give, serve and interact with each other and the world around us. At the risk of oversimplifying things we could say it’s like a divine recipe. Scripture, prayer, service, giving, witnessing, these things are the ingredients for Godly living. It requires discipline, but God promises the power of His Spirit to move us along.

Get cookin’. Read, pray, worship, serve, give. The results will bring us happiness and will glorify God!

Pastor Prigge

This Sunday at Victory
Rally Day!
8 and 10:45 a.m. Worship: ‘Recipe for Godly Living’
9:30 a.m. Bible Study: special activities for all ages including Victory Jeopardy during adult Bible Study.
12:00 p.m. Mandatory meeting for parents and youth interested in attending the 2010 National Youth Gathering in New Orleans. But Jonah was greatly displeased and became angry.”

Sounds a little strange, doesn’t it? Jonah got angry when God showed mercy. The issue wasn’t that God showed mercy, it was the people to whom God was showing mercy. They were Ninevites, enemies of Israel. Jonah felt that God should only be loving toward His chosen people, the Israelites. When God opened to door to a foreign nation Jonah became resentful.

I know, it seems like some people don’t deserve God’s mercy, but you and I don’t deserve it either. It’s a gift given freely because God loves us. And God loves all people. By the power of the Holy Spirit, working through God’s Word, you and I have come to faith in Jesus and God’s mercy is ours. Why? What could possibly cause someone to request that they be thrown over board?

Long story short…Jonah had disobeyed a direct order from God. God said, “Go to Nineveh.”, Jonah headed for Tarshish. Not a good idea. The LORD caused a storm to strike the boat and it put the lives of everyone on board in danger. Because of Jonah’s stupidity and sinfulness, others were in danger of dying.

When faced with the harsh reality, Jonah accepted responsibility and said, “Throw me into the sea.” Better that one die than everyone on board! Bring an offering and come before him; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.

Over the past few weeks we’ve been looking at what the Bible says about showing God’s love to others. Today we’ll look at a way to show love to God, the bonus being, others benefit as well!

This strange biblical teaching tells us to give money for the Lord’s purposes. During a worship service, the offering isn’t a ‘time out’ to pay the bills. Giving your offering is as much an act of worship as singing and praying. Look at the verse from 1 Chronicles above. If you want to give the LORD the glory due to His name, then bring an offering to worship. For the Israelites it may have been a lamb or some wheat. For us, it’s cash money. Of course there are other ways to worship. We give our valuable time. We use our unique abilities, but make no mistake, God’s Word makes it clear that since God has given it all to us, it’s only right that we use some of the money He has given to forward His cause.

I’ve heard it said that many people could double the amount they give and it still wouldn’t affect their standard of living. Try it, then try it again. God will be glorified as you give something so valuable for His purposes. The Bible tells us that we reap what we sow. Show your love for God and others by planting (giving). Let God take care of the rest. He will provide for others and He will provide for you.

In abundance,

Pastor Prigge

This week at Victory

Sunday – 8 & 10:45 a.m. Worship – Big Hands, Willing Hearts: ‘Time and Money’

9:10 a.m. Voter’s meeting: fill Education chair
9:30 a.m. Bible Study – ‘Matthew chapter 5 – some tough teachings’

Big Hearts-Willing Hands

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IVbl6fz6-Jo/Sjp5puEYNCI/AAAAAAAAABg/tRWQqMYJvWQ/s320/handshearts.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348721265103877154" />

The Vitamin-June 17, 2009

Weather, Or Not.

Mark 4:39 NIV

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

The disciples were in a boat with Jesus on the Sea of Galilee. A storm came up and the disciples were amazed that Jesus was still crashed out on a cushion. The storm didn’t wake Him up so they did, and they asked Jesus, ‘Don’t you care if we drown?’

In my mind, I envision a long silence as Jesus pondered how best to respond. Imagine Jesus thinking, “Hmmm, don’t I care? They think I don’t care. If they had even the slightest clue how much I care, they would have kept their mouths shut.”

Anyway, enough guessing about what Jesus may have been thinking. Jesus decides the best course of action is to get up, speak to the wind and waves and say, “Quiet! Be still!” (Jesus should have said the same thing to the disciples)

So the lake is calm and all is well, but to question the love and concern of Jesus over a storm? They thought Jesus didn’t care about them because the wind was blowing and the boat was taking water? You and I do the same thing. “What? I didn’t get that position I applied for? God must not care.” “I’m 43 and don’t have a girlfriend. Clearly God doesn’t care.” “Great, the electric bill this month is almost double what it was last month. Thanks for nothin’ God.” “My car needs 450.00 worth of work done. God, don’t you care?”

These storms may seem significant to us but Jesus knows better. After he calmed the storm, Jesus said to His disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

Faith. Have you? Don’t give up. So you missed a day…or two…grab it and read it. 5 minutes is better than nothing. Here’s the thing about reading God’s Word, it’s like exercise. Most people don’t want to do it. Once they do it they realize it’s not that painful. When they commit to doing it regularly they realize that it actually has psychological benefit. Stress reducer, endorphin releaser, etc. At the same time it’s actually doing a person’s body good.

Read your Bible. There are benefits. It’ll make you feel good because you’re doing what all God’s Children are to be doing regularly, listening to their Father. It’ll do your soul good and strengthen your faith. Just read it.

This Sunday we’ll examine some of the things we receive when we look into the pages of the Bible. It’s Bible reading, with benefits. You’re sitting around…being a tree when all of a sudden someone comes along and lops one of your branches off. “OW!” You might say to yourself (if trees could talk to themselves). “What was that all about?! What did I do to deserve that?”

Christians often wonder the same thing when they experience pain and loss in their lives. God is pruning you. For what? For production. God knows what you’re capable of and He’s moving you toward that level of production. His goal is that you be a big ol’ tree of faith producing the fruit of love, compassion, and kindness so that others will be drawn to the love of God that they see in you.

Endure the pain. Is the world coming to an end? I kind of hope so. Let’s say the world is coming to an end, before it does how about we all try something different? Let’s display God’s love. Not with words, but with actions. Words are good, words are necessary, but actions have a more measurable and immediate impact. As children of God we know what it’s like to be loved, to be forgiven, to experience mercy and kindness from God. God desires that we put our faith into action and spread the wealth.

Bring some godly positivity to wherever you are. Reflect confidence and hope by treating others patiently, by forgiving them, by doing unexpected and unusual acts of kindness for them. Don’t sit back and exist passively. Live as a Christian. If not, then I hope you’ll start preparing yourself right now as you read this devotion. Over the next four days we will commemorate the most significant events in human history. Life changing events, death changing events, events that have changed eternity for you and for the people you’ll come into contact with today.

It’s no small thing that Jesus left us a meal of His body and blood to forgive our sins. It’s certainly no small thing that the Creator of the universe would allow Himself to be killed to pay for the sins WE have committed. It’s no small thing that Jesus thumbed His nose at death and the devil to win our victory over the same.

Please take a moment now to pray and thank God for His unconditional love and goodness. God loves you. He’s displayed it in the death and resurrection of Jesus. You are forgiven through faith in Jesus. Now death is not the end for you. It’s the beginning! In verse 34, Jesus teaches self denial, something with which our culture is unfamiliar. His point is that nothing should come between Christ and His people. Family, friends, hobbies, possessions…if anything divides our allegiance or pulls us away from Jesus, we need to deny our earthly desires and let it go. Christ comes first.

As we are to be prepared to leave some people and things behind, Jesus reminds us to pick something else up. Our cross. This cross represents all the challenges we will face in this life as a result of our faith in Jesus. Mockery, persecution, possibly even death. It may seem like a lot for Jesus to ask but the blessings of eternal life will so far outweigh the challenges of this life that they aren’t even worth comparing.

Jesus gave His life so that we could live. He asks us to deny ourselves when we must and cling to Him so that together we will spend eternity in the presence of pure our loving God.

Sunday at Victory
8 and 10:45 a.m. Worship – Moments From Mark – ‘On Being A Disciple’
9:30 a.m. Bible Study – Living Together as The Body of Christ (large group processing of our small group study from this week)

Oh, and since it’s Lent, why not give something up? "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!"

After reading this verse, I’m inclined to spend more time talking about the leper than Jesus. I’m impressed with his approach. He comes to Jesus with a dire need. Leprosy was a death sentence. He drops to the ground and though the text says he begged, his words sound almost matter of fact. “If you are willing, you can make me clean.”

The leper was right. It’s a simple statement of fact. The question? Was Jesus willing? Jesus had compassion. Jesus always has compassion on those who suffer, but sometimes it’s God’s will to heal and sometimes it isn’t. In this case Jesus was willing, but back to the leper. His request is dripping with both confidence and humility. He knows that Jesus has the ability and he leaves the matter to the Lord’s discretion.

When it comes to earthly matters take a lesson from the leper. Be bold and confident in your prayers and leave room for God’s will to be done. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.

We don’t talk a lot about demons these days. That doesn’t mean they don’t exist. This may amount to speculation, but one could argue that the devil has adapted his modernized his approach. Drugs, alcohol, sexual promiscuity, the idolization of human reason, non-Christian religions. Whatever the devil is using, his goal remains the same. He wants you with him in Hell.

In this verse from mark Jesus healed the sick and drove out many demons. He’s done it for you and He’s done it for me. In Baptism God forgives our sins and claims us as His own. (Acts 2:38-39) The Holy Spirit takes up residence in us and the devil cannot be where the Spirit of God resides. There’s a portion of the liturgy for Baptism that was historically known as ‘the exorcism’. ‘Do you renounce the devil and all his works and all his ways.’ Sound familiar?

Christ has cast the devil and his power out of you. Hebrews 11 defines faith and lists many examples of people whose faith was evident in their lives. Hebrews 12 encourages us to take faith based action inspired by their legacy.

This Sunday, we’ll conclude the ‘One Month to Live’ series with an encouragement to ‘Leave Boldly’. If I discovered I had 30 days to live I guarantee I would do whatever I could to leave some kind of godly legacy. I would witness, I would give, I would sit my kids down and make sure they knew what Christ means to me. Heck, I don’t really know what I’d do, and that concerns me.

God has blessed us with life. It seems fair that He would expect us to live intentionally. When you die, what will be left behind? Children, family, friends who will be inspired by your faithful Christian life??? A financial gift that will be used for some cause in God’s kingdom??? If you’re saying, ‘I don’t know! I don’t know!’ Then join the club. I really don’t know right now what my legacy will be, but I know I want it to point to God. If you were to die in a month, how would you be remembered? What would be left behind as a testimony to God’s grace in your life. Think about it. Then act on it. More to come this Sunday.

Pastor Prigge

This Sunday at Victory

8 and 10:45 a.m. Worship – “One Month to Live – Leave Boldly”

9:00 a.m. Snacks and fellowship

9:30 Bible Study – “Know What You Believe” a review of Lutheran Christian teachings you should already know (but may not).

The Vitamin- January 29, 2009

Romans 8:7 NIV
“the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so.”

As we consider how we might live differently if we had one month to live, God’s Word reminds us to practice the lost art of humility. By nature we prefer pride to humility and dominance over submission. But there’s a reason why we call Jesus our Lord. He reigns and rules over us. It requires humility to acknowledge God’s sovereignty and submission to accept His Word and will for our lives.

It’s taken me a few years to figure out that I don’t know best. I’ve had to endure some divine discipline to come to that realization and while I still buck it, I realize that God is in control and His ways are higher (and better) than mine. As we seek to live passionately and love completely, it will do us well to learn humbly from God as well. We do this as we consume God’s Word and as we learn from the challenges He allows in our lives.

God teaches with ultimate and absolute Wisdom. He disciplines out of love and concern. Listen and learn humbly. Yeah, it sounds morbid, but the day will come for each of us. No matter who you are, you’re time is limited. If you knew you had one month to live, how would your life be different? Would you say things you always meant to say? Do things you always meant to do?

God’s Word has some pretty clear direction for our lives. Why put those things off till it’s too late. This Sunday we’ll examine the first in a series of God’s directives for those with limited time. Live Passionately.

It really bothers me when I encounter someone who doesn’t like their work. It shows in the way they treat their customers. It doesn’t matter where it is. A restaurant, a repair shop, a grocery store. If you don’t like what you’re doing, do something else! Don’t torture others because of your unhappiness. Live passionately.

On biblical key to accomplish this is found in Colossians 3:23. Whatever you’re doing, do it as though you’re working for the Lord and not for other humans. Why? Because you are. There’s more to flipping burgers than flipping burgers. There’s more to your job than meets the eye. As we face limited time, we have daily opportunities to point others to eternity in Christ.

More on Sunday,

Pastor Prigge

This Week at Victory

Tonight/Wednesday Choir Rehearsal 7pm

Saturday, January 17th 8-1 Red Cross Blood Drive – stop in and give!

Sunday 8 and 10:45 a.m. Worship – ‘One Month to Live – Live Passionately’

                9:10 a.m. Voter’s meeting – budget approval

9:30 a.m. Bible study – ‘Know What You Believe – A Theological Throw Down’

Blood Drive, January 17th

Victory Church is sponsoring a blood drive on Saturday, January 17, 8-1. The Red Cross is looking to receive a minimum of 35 units. As of now, we have 24 people committed to give. If you’ve given before, you know that not everyone who signs up is always accepted once the Red Cross tests the blood factors they have to test. They are in desperate need of blood right now. Please, please consider giving. You can now donate as young as 16 with a parents consent, need to weigh at least 110 lbs., and not have given in the last 56 days. If you think you may have a past health issue that prevents you from giving, you can contact me to try and help you decide, or I can give you the Red Cross number, and they’ll be happy to help you! Please email me back if you intend to give, and I’ll get you scheduled. Right now we have appointments available between 8 and 9:15, and from 10:45 to 12:45. Please bring friends, neighbors, coworkers, or anyone else you can think of to make this drive a success and help reach out in saving lives!

Thanks! Surprised? We shouldn’t be. Look at the context. We’ve all been involved in them. Arguments about which season of the year is most enjoyable, which sports team is the best, what song is the most popular.

Sometimes it’s fun. Sometimes it’s harmful. Consider the stupid arguments you’ve had with someone you love. Was it worth it? Sometimes it becomes a matter of pride and we’ll do anything to win, even if we know we’re wrong. Often, when you win an argument you really lose. You lose the respect of the other and you create hurt feelings and animosity. Usually it’s not worth it.

This Sunday we’ll conclude the series, ‘Communicating God’s Way’ by discussing ways to keep communication functional. In a way, it will be a review of what we’ve covered so far. He’s given us brains and bodies which enable us to work, and be semi-productive, and earn a paycheck. He has apparently blessed us with health. We’re all still here, aren’t we? So, everything we have has been given to us by God.

All God asks is a little acknowledgment. He desires that we give a proportionate amount of money back to Him so that His kingdom on earth can grow. He desires that we use what we have to glorify Him and benefit others. Don’t get offended. If it weren’t for God, you wouldn’t have any of it anyway. How dare we say to God, “Hey, don’t bother me. I’m too busy dealing with all my stuff.” God may just decide to take it all back.

Best of all, the Lord has given us a gift He can’t take back. The gift of forgiveness. Jesus died for the sins WE have committed. We are holy in God’s eyes through faith in Jesus. Because we’re forgiven, the door to heaven is wide open. No earthly possession can provide the satisfaction and pleasure that will be ours eternally in heaven.

So loosen your grip on your earthly stuff. Use it to glorify God and spread the Word about Christ. Or should I say, lack of behavior? The Pharisees were notorious for pointing out the finer points of God’s law and then demanding that others obey. Jesus flat out calls them hypocrites, to their faces!

We’re all hypocritical at times. It’s part of our sinful nature, but it is to be the exception, not the norm. God has given us His Holy Spirit and the Spirit enables us to control ourselves. Through faith in Jesus God declares us to be holy. Our task now is to rely on the Spirit’s power and strive to be what God has already declared us to be. Do what you say. Better yet, do what God says, knowing that when you fail, and you will, you are forgiven and renewed to try again and again and again.

Your fellow forgiven hypocrite,

Pastor Prigge

This Week at Victory
Saturday 11/1 9 a.m. Faithfully Fit exercise class: Cardio, strength, and spiritual exercise.
Come this Saturday!! We’re the ones who return from the Lord’s Supper with a frown on our faces as though someone just punched us in the stomach. You can tell we’re cutting loose when we stand for a hymn. Now THAT’S a party.

We can take a lesson from some ‘less restrained’ churches who aren’t afraid to clap, maybe even smile during worship. This Sunday we’ll examine a verse from 2 Samuel that actually records King David DANCING in praise and thanks to the LORD. People would drop like flies if I ever danced during a service. Why? Cultural norms? Traditions? Who cares? At the end of the day it doesn’t matter how we worship, contemporary, traditional, blended, blah, blah, blah. It doesn’t matter what other people think of our praise. What does God think? Is it coming from a heart that is alive with faith?

This Sunday we’ll learn more about our response to God’s goodness.

This Weekend at Victory
Saturday 9:00 a.m. Faithfully Fit Exercise Class
If you weren’t able to make it last week, grab some sweats and show up for some cardio, strength and spiritual training!

Sunday 8 and 10:45 Worship – Christianity 101: Our Response to God’s goodness
9:30 a.m. Bible Study – ‘Come To Papa’ Seeing our Heavenly Father the Way Jesus Did.

Worship This Week!

Pastor Appreciation Day, Sunday October 12th

We love our Pastor!

Victory Vitamin- October 9th

2 Corinthians 3:18 NIV
“we are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”

I often find myself frustrated at the end of the day. I know better than to think, say, or do certain things, but I think, say, and do them just the same. I ask the Lord to forgive me and I know He does, but I find myself doing many of the same sinful things over and over again. Ugh.

This week we’re talking about ‘sanctification’. The word itself comes from the Latin word ‘sanctus’ which means ‘holy’. Sanctification is God working to make our attitudes and actions holy even while we live in sinful bodies in a sinful world.

We’ll talk more about this Sunday, but in reality, the key is in the struggle. We will never achieve perfection in this life. That only comes in heaven. In the meantime, God has given us His Holy Spirit to begin the transformation by His power. Perhaps the most significant fruit of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5 is the fruit of ‘self control’. The Holy Spirit enables you to control yourself.

Know what God desires. Memorize the 10 Commandments. Exercise self control by the Spirit’s power. Seek to live a life that glorifies God! You will fail. You will be frustrated, but rejoice that you are forgiven. Rejoice that through faith in Jesus Christ the victory over sin is already yours.

In Christ’s victory,
Pastor Prigge

This Sunday at Victory
8 and 10:45 a.m. Worship – Christianity 101: Sanctification

9:00- Pastor Appreciation Celebration

9:30 Bible study – Christian Health and Wellness
During the Bible study hour we will do large group discussion based on what you studied in your small group Bible studies this past week. This week we’ll focus on redemption. That word reminds me of the old S&H Green Stamps my mom used to collect. There was a drug store near our house with a sign in the window saying, ‘Redeem S&H Stamps Here’.

You could turn the stamps in and get something in return, like a blender or a waffle iron, I don’t know, I was like 7 at the time. Jesus redeemed us by turning himself in for our sins. As a result we don’t get what we deserve. We are NOT punished for our sins. Instead we are forgiven and we get the free gift of eternal life by trusting in Jesus. You must be pretty precious to God. He gave the life of His Son so you could live forever with Him. Feel good about that!

In Christ,

Pastor Prigge

This Sunday at Victory

8 and 10:45 worship: "Christianity 101: What Does God Do? I’ll give you the short answer. God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. How do we know? Because the Bible tells us to and the Bible is God’s revelation to His people. How can be God be one if He’s Father, Son and Spirit? That I can’t tell you. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t true. Jesus instructs us to ‘Baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19) He says ‘name’, not ‘names’.

I look at it this way. If God is really God, then He ought to be above and beyond my comprehension. If I could dissect Him, figure Him out and put Him back together then He wouldn’t be much of a God, he’d be like a frog on a pin board. Don’t expect to grasp it, believe it. God is who He says He is and He is perfectly equipped to meet our needs. Our greatest need has been met by the Father, who sent His Son to die in our place. The Holy Spirit then gives us faith to trust in Jesus’ death and resurrection. The Bible does. How reliable is the Bible if the claim of reliability comes from that Bible itself? Ultimately it’s a matter of faith. Just like it’s a matter of faith, not evidence, that the world came about as a result of some big ‘bang’, just like it’s a matter of faith to deny the existence of God, it’s also a matter of faith when it comes to trusting the Bible.

However, in addition to the internal claim, there is external evidence that the Bible is credible. There are historical references to places and people that have been verified as historically accurate. There is the fact that the Bible was recorded by many different people over the course of about 1500 years. Many different people from many different centuries all recorded a message that agrees and points to Jesus as our Savior from sin.

The Koran has one author, Mohammed. One man claimed exclusive revelations and expects the world to trust his ‘revelations’ alone. The Book of Mormon has one author, Joseph Smith, who expected the world to trust his ‘revelations’ alone as a source of truth. The Bible was recorded by many different authors, almost eliminating the possibility of collusion and forwarding one’s own cause.

Finally, the Bible doesn’t point to human ability or activity as a source of salvation. All other belief systems on earth center on our ability to perform to a certain standard in order to please God. The Bible points us to Jesus, who pleased God for us.

Anyhoo, more on Sunday.

Pastor Prigge

This Week at Victory
8 and 10:45 a.m. Worship: The Bible – God’s Revelation To Us

9:30 a.m. Sunday School for all ages!
Adult Bible Study: ‘Come to Papa’: Knowing the Father as Jesus Does

See ya Sunday!

The Vitamin- September 4th

2 Timothy 3:14 NIV
“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it,”

This Sunday is Rally Day! Yes, it’s that time of year already. Kids are back in school, prepping their minds for a life of productive citizenship. Rally Day serves as a reminder to include the word ‘Christian’ in that phrase. My goal is that you and your children live your lives as productive Christian citizens.

We will all have an opportunity to deepen our faith and our understanding of God’s Word starting this Sunday with the first installment of our new sermon series, “The Christian Faith”. It’s a seven part series intended to briefly review the basics of what Christians believe. Those of us who call ourselves Christian need to know what we’re into. God desires us to be familiar with what He has revealed in the Bible. This series will help to do that.

We’ll also be starting a new 12 session Bible study this Sunday that will re-introduce you to your Father in heaven. I say ‘re-introduce’ because I hope this study will enable you to see God in a different light. God has invited us to call Him Father. He is a loving, caring, merciful Father who wants us to enjoy a deep, intimate relationship with Him. Stick around for Bible study this Sunday at 9:30 and get to know your heavenly Father on a deeper level.

Sunday School will also begin this Sunday. There will be no formal classes but there will be special activities to introduce teachers to students and students to teachers.

I know this has been less a devotion and more a commercial. How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!...To Him be the glory forever.”

Ignorance is bliss. Most of us are no longer in a position to enjoy that luxury. It’s good to be educated, informed and knowledgeable. So Is ignorance ever acceptable for people ‘our age’?

It’s not only acceptable, it’s inevitable. The Bible makes it clear that there are some things we cannot know. God knows our limitations and He reveals Himself to us in accordance with those limitations. Rather than reveal the intricacies of being God, the Creator, ruler and Savior of the universe, God reveals Himself as holy, just, loving, merciful and powerful.

If we take the time to read what He has revealed we will invariably come away scratching our heads, but there are no questions when it comes to God’s plan and His ability to carry it out to perfection. God is love. He has displayed it in the gift of a Savior and through His daily provision. God can be trusted. God reveals what we need to know and the rest He vows to take care of, perfectly, powerfully, in His own time.

In the verses above Paul admits that God’s decisions are unsearchable, but that God’s wisdom is deep. He then ends by saying, “To Him be the glory forever!” God’s ways are unsearchable yet He deserves all glory. In this case, ignorance is bliss.

Pastor Prigge

This week at Victory

Sunday, August 24th – 8 and 10:45 a.m. worship – “Ignorance Is Bliss” -Romans 11:33-36

9:30 a.m. Bible study – Christian Q and A: Predestination, what is it?

Consider this your official invitation.

The Church "Vicnic"

Victory Lutheran had its Church Picnic last Sunday, August 17th, and everyone had a swell time.

The festivities were to start at 12:15, but church let out a little early and people were hungry, and well... they found the food! Hogging all of the attention was a rather large and rather umm dead pig. But boy was he tasty.

I spent a fair deal of time looking for the spiral glazed cut... and the BLT cut, but to no avail. So I loaded up my plate with about a pound of the other white meat and slathered it with bbq sauce and sat under a tree with a bunch of other oinkers. It was a gorgeous day for a picnic.

Activities included volleyball, something with a racquet and a whole bunch of other sports I didn't recognize. People looked like they were having fun, and complained about being full and that's what really matters. Someone wanted to get a green Jell-O balloon toss going. Those crazy Lutherans. Not just in terms of our moral stance, but in terms of salvation. We confess that there’s one way of salvation; one way to heaven. Jesus Christ. We confess that because the Bible teaches that. John 14:6 NIV - Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Others claim that there are many ways to ‘eternal life’. They say, ‘many paths, one God.’ Well, if there’s ‘one god’, that god might have something to say about that, don’t ya think? Does this ‘one god’ care what we call him/her? Has this ‘one god’ ever revealed anything to us, say in written form? If so, then which revelation is right? They can’t all be right? Is the Koran the Truth? Is the Bible the Truth? They can’t all be the truth because they contain very different teachings.

Galatians 3 reveals God’s will about salvation. Christianity isn’t exclusive. It’s for everyone. There is neither Jew, Greek, slave, free, male, female, all are saved by God’s free gift of grace in Christ. All who are baptized are clothed with Christ. All. That’s pretty inclusive.

The real issue is this, some people want salvation on their own terms without consulting the God who offers it. If we want things on our own terms, then WE don’t really want a God, do we. But I’m rambling…to be continued this Sunday. The evening started out with a yummy cook out cozied up by the fire. Worship was led by Lindsay Magnuson, who is a Senior at Northwestern College in Roseville, MN. Pastor Brendan Prigge shared his testimony, both Parts A and B! (you had to be there!) Thanks to everyone who attended and brought such yummy food. The generous person who will help, share, and give whenever they’re asked. They’re accommodating and rather than make excuses about why they can’t help with this or that, they try to find a way to make it work.

These people do kind things unexpectedly and for no apparent reason. They don’t expect anything in return for their kindness, they give because they want to. They help because they know it’s needed. Are you that person? Many of you are. Some aren’t. Consider all that God has given to you. A car or two or three. Shelter; it may be an apartment, condo, trailer, rambler, or a 7,500 sq. foot luxury pad but you’ve got a roof over your head. You’ve got food, (enough to share) money, (enough to give) and health, (enough to help and serve).

We have been ‘made rich so that we can be generous on every occasion.’ Not to mention the priceless gift of knowing that we’ll live forever in heaven through faith in Jesus. It costs us nothing to share that news with others. Try it.

God has never been cheap or selfish with us. He’s give us His best in Jesus Christ. Follow His lead. Give your best to and for others.

Pastor Prigge

This Sunday, August 3rd at Victory:
8 and 10:45 a.m. Extreme Makeover: Life Edition – Generosity to Others
9:30 a.m. Bible study – Christian Q and A - “Weren’t Cain and his wife sisters?” “Do unbaptized babies go to heaven?” “Why did God allow some Bible leaders to have multiple wives?” “How far had humankind advanced in terms of population and technology when The Flood came?”

Don’t forget next Wednesday, August 6 will be our first outdoor worship at 6:30. We’ll have a fire for hot dogs or
S’mores. Burgers and buns will be provided. Worship will start about 7:15, and last about a half hour.
