Weather, Or Not.
Mark 4:39 NIV
He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
The disciples were in a boat with Jesus on the Sea of Galilee. A storm came up and the disciples were amazed that Jesus was still crashed out on a cushion. The storm didn’t wake Him up so they did, and they asked Jesus, ‘Don’t you care if we drown?’
In my mind, I envision a long silence as Jesus pondered how best to respond. Imagine Jesus thinking, “Hmmm, don’t I care? They think I don’t care. If they had even the slightest clue how much I care, they would have kept their mouths shut.”
Anyway, enough guessing about what Jesus may have been thinking. Jesus decides the best course of action is to get up, speak to the wind and waves and say, “Quiet! Be still!” (Jesus should have said the same thing to the disciples)
So the lake is calm and all is well, but to question the love and concern of Jesus over a storm? They thought Jesus didn’t care about them because the wind was blowing and the boat was taking water? You and I do the same thing. “What? I didn’t get that position I applied for? God must not care.” “I’m 43 and don’t have a girlfriend. Clearly God doesn’t care.” “Great, the electric bill this month is almost double what it was last month. Thanks for nothin’ God.” “My car needs 450.00 worth of work done. God, don’t you care?”
These storms may seem significant to us but Jesus knows better. After he calmed the storm, Jesus said to His disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
Faith. God cares, God loves, God is in control, Weather, or not.
Peace,
Pastor Prigge

Bible Reading…With Benefits
Romans 10:17 NIV
“Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.”
Last Sunday I harped a little on reading your Bible. Have you? Don’t give up. So you missed a day…or two…grab it and read it. 5 minutes is better than nothing. Here’s the thing about reading God’s Word, it’s like exercise. Most people don’t want to do it. Once they do it they realize it’s not that painful. When they commit to doing it regularly they realize that it actually has psychological benefit. Stress reducer, endorphin releaser, etc. At the same time it’s actually doing a person’s body good.
Read your Bible. There are benefits. It’ll make you feel good because you’re doing what all God’s Children are to be doing regularly, listening to their Father. It’ll do your soul good and strengthen your faith. Just read it.
This Sunday we’ll examine some of the things we receive when we look into the pages of the Bible. It’s Bible reading, with benefits. Get yours.
Love in Christ,

The Vitamin- June 4, 2009
2 Corinthians 10:5
“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
How To Handle The Truth
Are you scared of your Bible? If you were to pick it up right now, would you have to dust it off? There are some general principles that you can apply that may well open the Bible up to you in ways you never thought possible. It’s not that there’s some big secret to understanding God’s Word, these are just practical tips (and a number of biblical assumptions) that will guide you in properly handling the Truth that is The Bible. If you’ve been attending Victory, you can hear about these Bible study tips and assumptions. If you’re on our email list and unable to make it this Sunday, reply to this email and I’ll send you the pamphlet I’ll be distributing during the message on Sunday.
In the meantime, dust off your Bible and get ready to use it!
Peace in Christ.
