The Vitamin- January 29, 2009

Romans 8:7 NIV
“the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so.”

As we consider how we might live differently if we had one month to live, God’s Word reminds us to practice the lost art of humility. By nature we prefer pride to humility and dominance over submission. But there’s a reason why we call Jesus our Lord. He reigns and rules over us. It requires humility to acknowledge God’s sovereignty and submission to accept His Word and will for our lives.

It’s taken me a few years to figure out that I don’t know best. I’ve had to endure some divine discipline to come to that realization and while I still buck it, I realize that God is in control and His ways are higher (and better) than mine. As we seek to live passionately and love completely, it will do us well to learn humbly from God as well. We do this as we consume God’s Word and as we learn from the challenges He allows in our lives.

God teaches with ultimate and absolute Wisdom. He disciplines out of love and concern. Listen and learn humbly. God is preparing you for His purposes and for an eternity of peaceful perfection with Him!

The Vitamin- January 22nd

John 15:12 NIV

‘My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.’ - Jesus

As we continue to ponder how we might live differently if we had one ‘One Month to Live’, our Lord lays these words before us. ‘Love each other as I have loved you’. Thus the title for this week’s message, ‘Love Completely’. Jesus loved completely.

Are there relationships in your life that need mending? Are there hard feelings that haven’t been talked through? Does your spouse, best friend, boyfriend or girlfriend know how you feel about them? Have you told them how much you appreciate them? Do you still have the opportunity to tell your parents what you’d like to tell them?

And if you’ve told them, have you shown them? Do you show them every day that you love them?

And what about complete strangers? Is there anything you can do to show God’s love to them? I know, more questions than answers. Then again we already know the answers, don’t we?

Love,

The Vitamin- January 14, 2009

Colossians 3:23 NIV

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men,

This Sunday we’ll begin a four week series titled, ‘One Month to Live’. Yeah, it sounds morbid, but the day will come for each of us. No matter who you are, you’re time is limited. If you knew you had one month to live, how would your life be different? Would you say things you always meant to say? Do things you always meant to do?

God’s Word has some pretty clear direction for our lives. Why put those things off till it’s too late. This Sunday we’ll examine the first in a series of God’s directives for those with limited time. Live Passionately.

It really bothers me when I encounter someone who doesn’t like their work. It shows in the way they treat their customers. It doesn’t matter where it is. A restaurant, a repair shop, a grocery store. If you don’t like what you’re doing, do something else! Don’t torture others because of your unhappiness. Live passionately.

On biblical key to accomplish this is found in Colossians 3:23. Whatever you’re doing, do it as though you’re working for the Lord and not for other humans. Why? Because you are. There’s more to flipping burgers than flipping burgers. There’s more to your job than meets the eye. As we face limited time, we have daily opportunities to point others to eternity in Christ.

Blood Drive, January 17th

Victory Church is sponsoring a blood drive on Saturday, January 17, 8-1. The Red Cross is looking to receive a minimum of 35 units. As of now, we have 24 people committed to give. If you’ve given before, you know that not everyone who signs up is always accepted once the Red Cross tests the blood factors they have to test. They are in desperate need of blood right now. Please, please consider giving. You can now donate as young as 16 with a parents consent, need to weigh at least 110 lbs., and not have given in the last 56 days. If you think you may have a past health issue that prevents you from giving, you can contact me to try and help you decide, or I can give you the Red Cross number, and they’ll be happy to help you! Please email me back if you intend to give, and I’ll get you scheduled. Right now we have appointments available between 8 and 9:15, and from 10:45 to 12:45. Please bring friends, neighbors, coworkers, or anyone else you can think of to make this drive a success and help reach out in saving lives!
