The Vitamin- Nov 26, 2009

1 Thessalonians 5:18 NIV

“Give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

The economy is on life support. I know people who are out of work. H1N1 still looms. I could go on, but why bother?

I look at my life right now and feel so incredibly blessed. Are there things I want? Sure, but there are so many things I HAVE. I’m thankful for them. And let’s say I were to lose all my earthly possessions. I’m still thankful for the gift of eternal life that is given to me through faith in Jesus. Seriously, the best is yet to come. What we have now is just icing on the cake, tools to be used to help others and glorify God. Thanksgiving is a verb. Let’s get to it.

Thankfully,

The Vitamin-October 7, 2009

Genesis 7:17 NIV

For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth.

Really? A worldwide flood? Is it possible? There are those who claim that all life on earth spontaneously came about out of nothing. A worldwide flood seems a whole lot more likely than that.

So God uses water to destroy the sin and evil that existed on Earth in Noah’s day. Noah and his family were spared. The water caused death and the water saved lives. What do we learn from this?

1) God takes sin very seriously. Genesis 6 tells us that God was ‘grieved’ and in ‘pain’ because of the wickedness on Earth.

2) God destroyed the evildoers on Earth with the waters of the Flood.

3) God still takes sin seriously, but destroyed the effects of sin by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

4) The waters of baptism now destroys the sin in our lives and saves us from eternal death. Death and life through water.

If you’re baptized then rejoice in the destruction of Satan’s power in your life. Rejoice in the new life that is yours in Jesus Christ.

If you’re not baptized, reply to this email and let me know. God’s victory is waiting for you!

I hope your day is going swimmingly.

Genesis 3:4-5 NIV

"You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman. {5} "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

Liar. That’s what the devil is. The Bible calls him ‘the father of lies’. This lie in Genesis 3 was the first lie. God had clearly told Adam that if he ate from the fruit of that specific tree, he would die. Now the devil confronts Eve and completely contradicts what God had said. He still works that way. The devil, through various means and media, tries to convince us that what is wrong is actually right and what is bad is really good. He wants us to think that harmful things are really beneficial for us. Adam and Eve quickly discovered that the devil had lied.

God has given us His Word (The Bible) as our primary weapon against the devil’s lies. When we read and study the Bible and immerse ourselves in God’s Truth, we will be better equipped to dismiss the devil’s lies. God knows what’s best for us. Trust Him. Trust His Word.

Youth Gathering 2010

WE BELIEVE! - LCMS National Youth Gathering 2010

As you may have heard, the National Youth Gathering “WE BELIEVE!” is July 17-21, 2010 in New Orleans, LA and Victory is sending a delegation of youth to gather with over 20,000 of their closest friends for a great faith building experience!! Anybody who has ever attended one of these amazing events will tell you it’s a rare experience that should not be missed. There will be great music, new friendships, fantastic Bible studies, moments of enlightenment, plenty of laughter and a worship service at which about 30,000 teenagers will participate in Holy Communion. Wow!

The gathering theme is John 20:31 “But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”
Get on board!! Let's send a great group of kids to a great experience!
Curious about the gathering? Try www.lcmsgathering.com

[Anybody (ages 14-21) interested should bring their parents to the meeting on Sunday (9/13 after late service) and if you have one, bring a friend!]

The Vitamin 9.9.9

2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, {17} so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Christianity can be confusing. What’s it really all about? How can anyone know for sure? The fact that God gave us His Word, the Bible means that He wants us to know about Him. I’d say Christianity is about a relationship with God. A faith relationship with God through Jesus. That relationship starts and endures through contact with God’s Word. And God’s Word is useful! It trains us in righteousness so that we can live in response to what God has done for us.

Jesus came, lived, and died to pay the price for our sins. Now it’s our privilege to live for Him. Again, it doesn’t have to be complicated. God directs us to worship, pray, give, serve and interact with each other and the world around us. At the risk of oversimplifying things we could say it’s like a divine recipe. Scripture, prayer, service, giving, witnessing, these things are the ingredients for Godly living. It requires discipline, but God promises the power of His Spirit to move us along.

Get cookin’. Read, pray, worship, serve, give. The results will bring us happiness and will glorify God!
